Have you ever wondered where certain holidays come from? We're not talking about Thanksgiving or Christmas. Their origins, for the most part, are common knowledge. But how
many people really know how Halloween began?
Directed By Henry Selick - 1993
1. The question was posed to the viewer.

2. He was dressed up like a scarecrow

3. Jump into a fountain head-first.

4. He wore a ribbon with the word "Mayor."

5. The clown with the tear-away face.

6. Under the stairs

7. True

8. His ability to recite Shakespearean quotations

9. Not that we know of.

10. "Just a change from the same old routine."

11. The one he examined under a microscope exploded.

12. The Nightmare Before Valentine's Day,
Easter, Thanksgiving
or St Patrick's Day.
Don't ask us what was behind the fifth door.
We still haven't figured that one out yet.

13. Because Jack was the Pumpkin King. Duh!

14. Her restlessness

15. The spoon was still in the bowl when she
let it drain.

16. Frog's Breath

17. He gave her the left side of his brain.

18. No, he was referring to the construction of the reindeer that were needed for Jack's sleigh.

19. He was given a dog biscuit.

20. Jack's resembled a bat. The Mayor's spider bowtie was alive.

21. No, it wasn't.

22. Mischief, if you call that a skill (we wouldn't).

23. They crossed their fingers behind their back.

24. He was reviewing his naughty or nice list.

25. A fish skeleton and a few bottles of wine.

26. A turtle

27. Yes

28. If you picked Lock, the answer is yes.

29. Our guess would be the pitchfork.

30. The Oogie Boogie Man didn't bleed (his body was made out of bugs).

31. He brought the boy a puppy.

32. No, his last words would have been, "Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good night."

33. No, it wasn't

34. Jack used Zero to guide him through the
fog that was created.

35. We were mistaken.
The question was raised in the film's opening sequence.
Was it posed to Jack (Chris Sarandon), you, the viewer, or one of the residents of Halloween Town?
2. Jack's attire only changed
twice
during the course of the film. What was different about his appearance when his character
was introduced?

3. The lengths to which Jack went to entertain the residents of Halloween Town was what made him such a beloved figure. Take his antics during The Pumpkin Song, for example. You'd have to set yourself on fire to duplicate what he did and then do this, to extinguish the flames. Remember kids, we said, "Take his antics," Not, "Try them!"

4. It was the Mayor (Glenn Shadix) who sang, "Everyone's waiting
for the next surprise" in The Pumpkin Song. We know what you're waiting for… the next question, or challenge, right?
Here it is - watch the first few minutes of the film again with the volume muted and look for some clue to his occupation.

5. Something disappeared
without a trace during that song.
Do you remember what it was?

6. Think back to when you were about 6 or 7 years old. The fear of monsters lurking in your closet kept you awake throughout many
a night, didn't it? At least yours' were only imagined. Where did
the creature with the snake-like fingers dwell?

7. True or False: The Mayor
couldn't remove his own head,
like Jack could, but he could
spin it completely around.

8. A man, or should we say, a Pumpkin King of many skills,
Jack never showed us this one,
but we believed him when he
said he could do it… without his head (as if that weren't impressive enough). Which talent are we referring to?

9. How could anyone grow tired of Halloween? Seems impossible, doesn't it? Jack had his reasons. The question is, did anyone else feel the same way?

10. No one asked Jack what he was doing out in the forest the day he discovered the doorway to Christmas Town, so we will.
"Were you looking for something?" Answer that question.

11. We also would have asked
him this question - "What's inside the sack, Jack?" To which he may have replied, "Gifts for everyone!" You can have the Teddy Bear that was dissected if you can tell us why we shouldn't eat the Christmas berries.

12. It's been almost 20 years
since film's theatrical release
and still no sequel. Now, that's shocking. Jack could have gone through five other doors the day
he discovered Christmas Town. Choose the movie you'd want to see.

13. Here's an even easier
question - Why did Dr. Finkelstein (William Hickey) let Jack borrow some of his equipment without asking for anything in return?

14. Was Dr. Finkelstein referring
to Sally's (Catherine O'Hara) repeated attempts to run away
from his castle, her restlessness or the feelings she had for Jack when he remarked, "It's a phase, my dear, it'll pass?"

15. You remember how Sally tricked Dr. Finkelstein into
drinking the soup she poisoned,
don't you? She pretended to drink some of it herself from a strainer that resembled a spoon. Why
didn't he see it drain out?

16. Any cookbook that included a recipe for Worm Wart soup should also include a tip on how to mask its odor. Sally did it by adding
which ingredient?

17. Dr. Finkelstein's second companion couldn't have been duplicated. At least not in the
exact manner she was created. Tell us why.

18. That procedure appeared to
be "exceedingly simple," didn't it? Is that what Finkelstein was referring to when those words
were spoken?

19. Igor was living proof that ignorance is bliss. How was he rewarded for his obedience?

20. Want to thank us for this quiz? We'd love to own a replica of the Mayor's bowtie. How did it differ from Jack's?

21. Who were Halloween Town's finest Trick or Treaters? That's easy. Lock (Paul Reubens),
Shock (Catherine O'Hara), and Barrel (Danny Elfman). But that wasn't why they were chosen for the task they were given, was it?

22. The task of kidnapping Santa Claus (Ed Ivory) required three skills according to Jack. Craft, cunning and what else?

23. The viewer saw something
that Jack either missed or didn't see when the children promised
to complete the aforementioned task without the help of the Oogie Boogie Man (Ken Page). Do you remember what it was?

24. You could say that Lock,
Shock and Barrel showed up just in time when they arrived at Santa's doorstep. What was he doing?
25. Still haven't decided how to thank us for this quiz yet? Here's another idea… How about a Nightmare Before Christmas gift basket? What was in the basket that was left for Jack?

26. We know it's the thought that counts, but roadkill? No thanks. What type of critter had been dead for "much too long" to make a present?

27. We don't know why Jack thought Santa had claws instead
of hands, but that explained why
he kept calling him "Sandy Claws." Did the name stick?

28. Lock, Stock or Barrel? Pick
one before you read the next question. Is that who wanted
to boil Santa in a pot, and then butter him up?

29. Remember the old Honeymooners episode where Ralph (Jackie Gleason) gets stuck between two pipes? That's what we thought of when Santa was stuffed into the pipe that led to the Oogie Boogie Man's lair. Three items were used to help nudge him along. Which one hurt the most?

30. In our Predator quiz (V1),
we asked why Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) thought he
could kill something he couldn't even see. He may not have
been so optimistic if his
adversary was the Oogie Boogie Man. Tell us why.

31. The parents of the first boy
that Jack surprised on Christmas eve got the shock of their lives when they their son pulled a severed head out of a box.
Santa replaced that gift when he returned to Christmas Town. The question is, with what?

32. Jack repeated the words,
"What have I done?" after his
sleigh was shot out of the sky earlier that evening. Would they have been his last if he perished
in the crash?

33. Here's a question that might leave you scratching your head. If Sally really wanted Jack to stay away from Christmas Town, why did she make him a "Sandy
Claws" outfit? The answer may have something to do with the timing of her premonition. Was
the outfit made prior to that?

34. Why did the plan that Sally devised to stop Jack from
returning to Christmas Town fail?

35. They say that no two snowflakes are alike. But we thought we saw a couple that resembled Jack's face in the
film's closing sequence. Are
we wrong or right?
